We get asked all the time: "Where did the name Tom Tom come from?"

As it turns out, the answer is closer to home than you might think. Tom’s father was also named Tom, so naturally, the family called the younger Tom "Little Tom." By the time he was six or seven, he decided he had outgrown the nickname "Little."

In response, his Nauny (grandmother) started calling him "Tom Tom" instead. The name stuck. From that day on—through school, his early days in the trade, and the founding of this company—friends, family, and customers alike have known him simply as Tom Tom.

It all started when he was a "young gun," looking for something more than delivering papers or picking tobacco. His father hired him at 15 years old to paint the family home. He went to the library, did his research, and started preparing the house for paint.

Up the street, a well-known local painting company was starting a job. As they drove by each day, they saw Tom Tom out there working hard. Eventually, they stopped and asked if he wanted to help them down the street, telling him the pay sure beat what the other kids in the neighborhood were doing.

Every summer since then, Tom Tom has painted. That was over 42 years ago. Ever since, Tom Tom Painting and its crews have been painting and plastering, inside and out, with "Old Timers" and "New Cowboys." Throughout the years, they have worked with the best professionals and the worst hacks you could imagine. They learned a lot from the best—and just as much, if not more, from the worst.

We have a "No Hacks" policy. We do not contract with or work with hackers or slackers; we have zero tolerance for either. This is the only advertising we have ever done, as 98% of our business has been built through word of mouth and referrals.

We are a woman-owned painting contractor and only work with proven, quality contractors and artists who are reliable, insured, and professional.
